How do I apply for admission for myself or a loved one?

Start by speaking with your Doctor or a Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) agency for an assessment. Once assessed, contact us directly and we’ll guide you through the rest of the process with care and clarity.

What is NASC?

Needs Assessment and Service Coordination. The NASC service undertakes comprehensive health needs assessments and service co-ordination for the DHB. “Assessors” assess aged people against a set of criteria, at the request of anyone: the individual, family member or friend, GP or hospital. They formally determine what level support and care the person requires.

Is there a waitlist at Beattie Home & Hospital?

Availability can vary depending on care level and room preferences. We recommend contacting us directly for the most up-to-date information. If we don’t have immediate availability, we can add you to our waiting list and keep in touch.

What are the visiting hours?

We welcome visitors at any time.

Can residents bring personal belongings or furniture?

Absolutely. We encourage residents to bring familiar items like photos, small furniture, or keepsakes to help personalise their room to feel like home.

What activities and events are offered?

Our dedicated activities team runs a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts, games, music, exercise, and cultural celebrations led by a Diversional Therapist and team of Activities Coordinators. We also organise regular outings in our mobility van and monthly Happy Hour gatherings.

What kind of meals do residents receive?

We serve nutritious, dietician approved, home-style meals prepared onsite by our qualified kitchen chefs. A weekly menu is provided to residents where there is the option to ‘opt-out’ of certain meals they wish to and replace them with a toasted sandwich/sandwich.

Menus are reviewed regularly and can be tailored to individual dietary requirements. Residents are welcome to provide feedback on meals during our regular resident surveys.

Can residents go out with family or on outings?

Yes, most definitely. Residents are encouraged to maintain their independence and community connections where possible. We just ask that you sign them out and ensure we’re aware of their plans for safety reasons.

What health services are available onsite?

We have 24/7 nursing care, regular GP visits, and access to physiotherapy, podiatry, and other allied health services as needed. Medications and medical needs are managed professionally and respectfully.

Do you have a Hairdresser?

Yes we have our own in-house hair salon with a hairdresser attending 2 days per week. Residents can be booked in for a variety of services and paid for via their petty cash account.

How is laundry managed?

We take care of all residents’ personal laundry on-site with care and attention. Our dedicated laundry team washes, dries, and folds clothing and personal items ensuring everything is returned promptly and in good condition, We use name labelling to help prevent mix-ups.

All linen (such as sheets and towels) is laundered offsite by Sincerity drycleaners.

How much does care cost?

Costs vary depending on the level of care and eligibility for government subsidies. We’re happy to provide detailed fee information and help you understand your options. Please reach out for a confidential discussion.

Do you offer Respite Care?

Yes, we offer respite care at both Beattie Home & Hospital and Papakāinga Homestead. Respite stays provide short-term care and support for older people, giving families or caregivers a break. If you’re interested, please get in touch with us to check availability and discuss your needs.

How is your Day Stay Care program run?

Our day stay care programme provides a safe, supportive, and social environment for seniors during the day. Day Stay Care runs weekdays (9am – 3pm) with residents enjoying, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. There is also the availability of pickup within the О̄torohanga township.

What is enduring power of attorney (EPOA) for personal care and welfare and EPOA for property ?

An EPOA (Enuring Power of Attorney) is a legal document that lets someone you trust make decisions for you  if you’re not longer able to. There are two types: one for personal care and welfare, and one for property and finances. These are activated when a medical professional decides that a person is no longer capable of making or communicating decisions.

Yes, we do. Beattie Home & Hospital offers transport to and from medical appointments for our residents. Our team can arrange safe and comfortable travel to local doctors, specialists, dentists, and hospital appointments as needed.
